Kingdom Come: Deliverance II: A First Look After 10 Hours
With Kingdom Come: Deliverance II now available, it's time to assess Warhorse Studios' latest foray into historically-accurate video game storytelling. After 10 hours of gameplay, I'm compelled to share my initial impressions. The game's captivating nature is already pulling me away from work, a strong testament to its appeal. But let's delve into the specifics.

Comparison with the First Game:
Kingdom Come: Deliverance II retains the open-world action RPG foundation of its predecessor, emphasizing historical accuracy and realistic mechanics. Players can choose their path – valiant knight, stealthy rogue, or diplomat – with survival elements like eating and sleeping impacting effectiveness. Combat remains challenging, particularly against multiple opponents.

Visually, the game boasts stunning landscapes, a significant improvement over the original, while maintaining reasonable system performance. This balance of visuals and optimization is a welcome rarity in modern AAA titles.

Combat is refined, with a streamlined attack system, improved enemy switching, and a more nuanced parry mechanic. While more intuitive, it's not easier; encounters require tactical thinking, as enemies exhibit increased intelligence and attempt flanking maneuvers. Their coordinated attacks and strategic retreats create a more challenging and realistic combat experience.

New additions include blacksmithing, adding another layer to gameplay beyond alchemy and other mini-games. The crafting system offers both economic and equipment benefits, and the unique controls add an extra layer of challenge.

Bugs:
Unlike its predecessor's troubled launch, Kingdom Come: Deliverance II appears significantly more polished. Minor graphical glitches, such as unresponsive dialogue buttons (easily resolved with a restart) and a minor animation issue, were the only bugs encountered during my playtime.

Realism and Difficulty:
The game strikes a balance between realism and enjoyable gameplay. The difficulty, while lacking a selectable setting, isn't insurmountable. Players familiar with titles like The Witcher 3 or Skyrim should find it manageable, provided they approach combat strategically.

The historical setting is well-executed, immersing the player without overwhelming them with historical facts.
Should You Play Kingdom Come: Deliverance II?
Newcomers to the series can easily jump in. The prologue effectively summarizes the first game's events, ensuring players understand Henry's backstory. The engaging opening seamlessly blends tutorials with captivating gameplay.

While a full judgment of the story and quests requires more playtime, initial impressions are highly positive. The improvements over the first game are substantial, making it a promising RPG. Whether it maintains this quality throughout the entire experience remains to be seen, but my early experience is exceptionally encouraging.
