Keanu Reeves Recently Pitched DC Studios on Constantine 2 — and It’s Now Ready for a Script

Keanu Reeves has provided the most exciting update yet on the long-awaited sequel to the 2005 cult classic, Constantine. Playing the role of John Constantine, an occult detective and exorcist from DC Comics, Reeves has been eager to bring the character back to the screen for over two decades. Now, it seems that Constantine 2 is closer to becoming a reality than ever before.

In a recent interview with Inverse, Reeves shared that after years of trying to develop the sequel, they have finally crafted a story and pitched it to DC Studios. "We've been trying to make this film for over a decade, and we just recently put a story together and pitched it to DC Studios and they said, ‘Okay,’" Reeves explained. "So, we're going to try and write a script."

While this news is promising, it's important to note that Constantine 2 is not yet a confirmed project within the rebooted DC Universe (DCU). DC Studios co-chiefs James Gunn and Peter Safran have not mentioned the sequel as part of their plans. Therefore, the project remains on the edge of possibility.

Reeves did, however, tease that if Constantine 2 comes to fruition, it will be set in the same world as the original film. "We're not going off that," he assured fans, adding with a touch of humor, "John Constantine's going to be tortured even more."

This update follows comments from producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura, who revealed in September that a script for Constantine 2 was already in his inbox. Speaking to ComicBook, di Bonaventura admitted he was hesitant to read it due to his high hopes for the project. "You know it's in my inbox right now, funny enough," he said. "I'm too scared to read it, though, I want it to be good so bad. I’ll probably read it in the next few days, when I get on an airplane."
