Proxi, The Sims Creator's New Game, Has More Details Revealed

Will Wright, the visionary behind The Sims, recently offered a deeper look into his new AI-powered life simulation game, Proxi, during a Twitch livestream. This innovative title, initially announced in 2018, is finally taking shape, with details emerging from Gallium Studio, Wright's current development team. The game promises a uniquely personal experience centered around the player's memories.

A More Personal Simulation

The livestream, hosted by BreakthroughT1D – an organization dedicated to Type 1 diabetes research – provided a platform for Wright to discuss Proxi. The interview, part of their "Dev Diaries" series, explored both the game's development and Wright's personal connection to the project.

At its core, Proxi is an AI-driven life sim built from the player's own memories. Players input personal recollections in paragraph form, which the game then transforms into animated scenes. These scenes are customizable, allowing players to refine the digital representation of their memories using in-game assets. Each new memory, termed a "mem," enhances the game's AI and contributes to the player's "mind world," a navigable 3D environment composed of hexagons.

This "mind world" expands and populates with Proxies – digital representations of friends and family – as more memories are added. Memories are arranged chronologically and linked to Proxies, creating a dynamic and interconnected representation of the player's life. Remarkably, these Proxies can even be exported to other game worlds, including Minecraft and Roblox.

Wright's focus on personalized gameplay is evident. He aims to create "magical connections with memories, bringing them to life," emphasizing a deeply personal experience unlike anything before. He humorously noted his design philosophy: "No game designer has ever gone wrong by overestimating the narcissism of their players. The more I can make a game about you, the more you'll like it."

Proxi is now featured on Gallium Studio's official website, with platform announcements expected soon.
