Hollow Knight: Silksong Steam Update Hints at 2025 Release

by Joshua May 02,2025

The anticipation surrounding Hollow Knight: Silksong has reached a fever pitch following a series of intriguing updates and hints. A recent mention by Microsoft in an official Xbox post, coupled with backend changes to the game's Steam listing, has set the gaming community abuzz with speculation about an imminent re-reveal and possible release.

On March 24, eagle-eyed fans across various platforms, including social media, Reddit, and Discord, noticed updates to the Steam metadata of Hollow Knight: Silksong. These changes, as recorded on SteamDB, include an opt-in for the game on GeForce Now, Nvidia's video game streaming platform, along with altered assets. Perhaps most telling is the adjustment to the Steam store page's legal lines, now listing the copyright for Hollow Knight as Team Cherry 2025, rather than the previous 2019. This suggests that a release in 2025 could be on the horizon.

With Nintendo's Switch 2 Direct scheduled for April 2, the timing couldn't be more tantalizing for fans eagerly awaiting news. The possibility of a Hollow Knight: Silksong re-reveal or release announcement during this event has fans on the edge of their seats.

PlayIt's been six years since the announcement of **Hollow Knight: Silksong**, a period marked by sporadic updates and extended periods of silence from Team Cherry. However, January saw a surge in activity from one developer on X/Twitter, igniting speculation about a potential re-reveal during the Switch 2 Direct. There's even talk of the game possibly launching as a timed exclusive on Nintendo's next-generation console.

It's crucial to recall that upon its announcement, Team Cherry confirmed Hollow Knight: Silksong for Windows, Mac, Linux, and Nintendo Switch. The game has also become one of the most sought-after titles for Xbox Game Pass, thanks to Microsoft's deal with Team Cherry to include Silksong on the service from day one.

However, in May 2023, Team Cherry announced a delay, pushing the release of Hollow Knight: Silksong past the first half of 2023. Matthew Griffin, Team Cherry's marketing and publishing lead, explained, "We had planned to release in the first half of 2023, but development is still continuing. We're excited by how the game is shaping up, and it's gotten quite big, so we want to take the time to make the game as good as we can."

As the sequel to the critically acclaimed Hollow Knight from 2017, Silksong carries immense expectations and remains one of the most wishlisted games on Steam. In IGN's review of the original Hollow Knight, we praised the game, stating: "The world of Hallownest is compelling and rich, full of story that’s left for you to discover on your own, and built with branching paths that offer an absurd amount of choice in how you go about discovering it. With such a high density of secrets to find and fun, challenging enemies to face, it’s worth spending every moment you can in Hollow Knight."
