If you thought Helldivers 2 developer Arrowhead Studios lacked a dark sense of nostalgia, think again. One year after the infamous in-game liberation of Malevelon Creek, Helldivers 2 is sending its players back to the planet to defend it against the surging Automaton forces.
Following a recent Major Order failure, players were on edge about a return to the Creek, especially with reports that the Automatons, now bolstered by their fiery new Incineration Corps, were targeting the Severin Sector. This sector, and Malevelon Creek in particular, was the epicenter of one of Helldivers 2's earliest and most memorable collective moments. Helldivers from around the world rallied on the planet to keep the Creek under Super Earth's control.
The combination of dense jungle terrain and formidable foes earned Malevelon Creek the nickname "Robot Vietnam." After the intense battle concluded and the Creek was securely under Helldiver control, Arrowhead released a special commemorative cape to honor the fight.
Over the weekend, a new Major Order confirmed that Helldivers will indeed be returning to Malevelon Creek. The offensive, spearheaded by the Incineration Corps, is already underway, with Malevelon Creek as the prime target. Invasions and skirmishes are spreading across the sector, with battle lines advancing towards the Creek.
Through the in-game briefing, Super Earth is calling on its Helldivers to protect the resting place of many "Creekers" who fell during the initial push to liberate the planet. This effort is crucial to prevent what Super Earth describes as the "greatest net desecration" ahead of the upcoming Malevelon Creek Memorial Day.

Helldivers 2 players are buzzing with excitement over this Major Order. The community is abuzz with memes drawing parallels to everything from Starship Troopers to the Doom Slayer, and even Delicious in Dungeon, flooding the Helldivers subreddit. Veterans who experienced the original battle at the Creek, with its swarms of bots and lasers filling the air, are ready for round two.
New players who joined after the initial fight for the Creek are also eager to dive in and experience this iconic location. These communal efforts, where Helldivers log on and work together towards significant milestones, are a testament to the game's community spirit. When these efforts tie into the game's ongoing narrative and foster a sense of shared experience within the universe, it can be truly remarkable.
However, concerns are mounting that Arrowhead might have more surprises in store. One post highlights that while the defensive efforts are progressing well and Malevelon Creek is currently safe, there are still five days left on the Major Order. Teams are focusing on specific objectives as the sector remains a hotspot for Automaton incursions. Watching this unfold in real-time is captivating, and it promises to make this week an exhilarating one for Helldivers players as the battle for the Creek intensifies.
