by Peyton Apr 26,2025

HBO's critically acclaimed series, The Last of Us, is set to captivate audiences for potentially four seasons, according to executive Francesca Orsi. While Orsi hinted at the possibility of extending the series beyond its current trajectory, she was careful to note that there's no "complete or final plan" in place yet. "I wouldn't want to confirm that, but it's looking like this season and then two more seasons after this, and we're done," she shared with Deadline.

Fans eagerly awaiting the next installment can look forward to the show's return in April 2025. Orsi teased that Season 2 will delve deeper into the various factions vying for survival, presenting them in a unique manner through distinctive wardrobe and makeup choices. "There's certain elements in terms of the various factions that are competing for survival that reveal themselves as a really intriguing survivalist group, and I think they just have a quality to them that feels distinct in how they present it," she explained.

The Last of Us Season 2 Cast: Who's New and Coming Back to the HBO Show?

Unlike Season 1, which adapted the entirety of the first game, HBO plans to spread the story of The Last of Us Part 2 over multiple seasons, with Season 2 concluding after seven episodes at a "natural breakpoint."

Season 2 will introduce new characters, including Kaitlyn Dever as Abby, Danny Ramirez as Manny, and Tati Gabrielle as Mel. The mysterious role of Catherine O'Hara remains under wraps for now.

IGN's review of The Last of Us: Season 1 praised it as "a stunning adaptation that should thrill newcomers and enrich those already familiar with Joel and Ellie's journey alike," awarding it an impressive 9/10 score.
