Guy Ritchie Helms Road House Sequel Starring Jake Gyllenhaal

by Savannah May 22,2025

Guy Ritchie is set to direct the sequel to Amazon MGM's 2024 remake of Road House, with Jake Gyllenhaal reprising his role as Elwood Dalton, the ex-UFC fighter turned bouncer. The sequel was confirmed in May of the previous year, shortly after the original's successful release in March 2024, which garnered over 50 million views in its first two weekends on Prime, making it Amazon MGM Studios' most-watched produced film debut at the time.

The original 2024 Road House was directed by Doug Liman, known for films like The Bourne Identity and Edge of Tomorrow. However, Liman expressed his dissatisfaction with the film's streaming release, stating that it was intended for theatrical distribution and that he, along with Gyllenhaal and producer Joel Silver, did not receive compensation reflective of its streaming success. Despite this, Gyllenhaal clarified that Amazon had always planned for the film to be released on streaming platforms.

Road House 2 will be the third collaboration between Ritchie and Gyllenhaal, following their work together on the 2023 war film Guy Ritchie's The Covenant and the upcoming action thriller In the Grey, which also stars Henry Cavill. The screenplay for Road House 2 is being penned by Will Beall, known for his work on Gangster Squad and Bad Boys: Ride or Die.

Ritchie remains busy, having directed multiple episodes of the newly launched Paramount+ series MobLand, starring Tom Hardy, and his next film, Fountain of Youth, is set to premiere on Apple TV+ later this month.
