The news we've all been expecting has finally hit: the release of GTA 6, originally slated for 2025, has been pushed back to May 26, 2026. Despite this delay, 2025 promises to be an exceptional year for gaming, with a slew of phenomenal releases already gracing us, such as Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, Blue Prince, and Split Fiction. And there's much more to come! From Ghost of Yotei for those craving more samurai action, to Borderlands 4 for co-op chaos enthusiasts, and even a new console and accompanying games from Nintendo, 2025 is shaping up to be a blockbuster year in gaming.
Here's a detailed look at what you can look forward to in the rest of 2025, beyond the realm of Grand Theft Auto 6.
With GTA 6 out of the picture for this year, you might have freed up some space in your gaming schedule. But don't worry, there are some massive releases on the horizon. **Doom: The Dark Ages** is set to launch on May 15 across Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC, promising an enthralling gothic reimagining of the beloved shooter. Following closely, **Elden Ring Nightreign** will hit Xbox, PlayStation, and PC on May 30. This co-op roguelike marks new territory for FromSoftware, offering a faster-paced experience that could become a staple for your multiplayer gaming sessions.
Fast forward to June, and you'll find yourself diving into Hideo Kojima's latest mind-bending adventure, **Death Stranding 2: On the Beach**, launching exclusively on PS5 on June 26. Its trailers tease a world brimming with bizarre and innovative concepts, promising to push boundaries far beyond its predecessor. Also in June, **Dune: Awakening** arrives on PC on June 10. Be prepared for treacherous terrain and those infamous sandworms, and don't forget to stay hydrated!
With the delay of GTA 6, the spotlight shifts to the **Nintendo Switch 2**, set to launch on June 5. Accompanying the new console is its first major game, **Mario Kart World**, along with enhanced editions of **The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild** and **Tears of the Kingdom**, offering improved resolutions and frame rates. The **Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour** serves as a tutorial through mini-games, while a plethora of third-party titles will also be available at launch, including **Hogwarts Legacy**, **Split Fiction**, **Street Fighter 6**, **Yakuza 0 Director's Cut**, **Cyberpunk 2077**, and, of course, **Fortnite**.
But June is just the beginning. On July 17, **Donkey Kong Bananza** will hit the shelves, promising a thrilling 3D platforming experience. Later in the year, look forward to **Metroid Prime 4: Beyond**, **Pokemon Legends: Z-A**, and **Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment**. And don't forget about **Hollow Knight: Silksong**, which is finally set to release on Switch 2 and other platforms this year.
As the year winds down, expect a flurry of big releases leading into the holiday season. While not officially announced, we're likely to see a new **Call of Duty** and **EA Sports FC 26** around this time.
September brings two major shooters: **Borderlands 4** on the 12th, promising even more kooky, violent fun with enhanced gun drops, and **Marathon** on the 23rd, an extraction shooter from the creators of Destiny that's definitely worth watching.
On October 2, PlayStation fans can dive into **Ghost of Yotei**, a long-awaited follow-up to Tsushima, featuring a gripping tale of vengeance against shadowy masked samurai. This should satisfy those who enjoyed the narrative of this year's Assassin's Creed Shadows.
There are likely to be other exciting releases as well. While we don't have confirmed dates yet, highly anticipated titles like **The Outer Worlds 2** and **Crimson Desert** are expected to launch towards the end of the year.
