Sega has delivered surprising news to fans of the niche yet popular Football Manager series. In a recent announcement, Sega and Sports Interactive revealed that there will be no new installment for the 2025 season. The companies have officially canceled the game and are refunding all preorders.
So, what led to this decision? The announcement cites the game's unfinished state as the primary reason. Originally delayed twice, the developers aimed to introduce a significant technological breakthrough in the new installment but were unable to meet their ambitious goals. This level of transparency is commendable, particularly when contrasted with other sports simulators that often release minimally updated versions (ahem, NBA 2K).
Despite the honesty, the news is disheartening for fans. Additionally, the developers have confirmed that Football Manager 24 will not receive updates with new season data. This is a significant setback for players, especially given the game's history of helping some successful in-game managers secure real-life positions at football clubs. For the next year, fans will have to make do with an outdated version of the game.
Now, all eyes are on Sega and Sports Interactive for future announcements as the community eagerly awaits what comes next.
