Final Fantasy VII Rebirth PC Version: Director's Insights on Mods and DLC
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth's PC release is generating excitement, but what about potential DLC and the modding community? Director Naoki Hamaguchi recently offered some insights.
DLC: A Matter of Player Demand
While the development team initially considered adding episodic DLC to the PC version, resource constraints led them to prioritize completing the final game in the trilogy. Hamaguchi stated that adding new content is currently not planned. However, he's open to the possibility: "If we receive strong requests from players after the release regarding certain matters, we would like to consider them." The future of DLC hinges on significant player demand.
Modding Community: A Call for Responsible Creation
The PC release will undoubtedly attract modders. While there's no official mod support, Hamaguchi expressed respect for the modding community's creativity, urging them to refrain from creating or distributing offensive or inappropriate content. This reasonable request aims to maintain a positive player experience.
PC Version Enhancements
The PC version boasts graphical improvements, including enhanced lighting and texture resolutions, addressing issues like the "uncanny valley" effect seen in the original release. Higher-end systems will benefit from improved 3D models and textures beyond the PS5's capabilities. Porting the mini-games presented a unique challenge, requiring extensive work on key configuration settings.
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, the second chapter of the Remake trilogy, launches on PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store on January 23, 2025. The game originally released on PS5 on February 9, 2024, to widespread acclaim.
