FCC Filing Hints at Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller Upgrade

by Aaliyah Apr 25,2025

With just under 24 hours until the highly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 Direct, excitement is building as Nintendo prepares to unveil its plans for the next generation of its popular console. A recent Federal Communications Commission (FCC) filing has sparked speculation about what might be included in the Switch 2's controller lineup.

On March 31, an FCC filing under the product code "BEE-008" was discovered by fans on Famiboards and reported by Nintendo-centric outlets like GoNintendo. This filing appears to be for a new game controller, with many speculating that it could be the Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller. While Nintendo has not yet confirmed the existence of a Switch 2 Pro Controller, the filing's mention of Bluetooth and NFC capabilities suggests it might be a high-end model.

One of the most intriguing aspects of this potential new controller is the inclusion of a headphone jack, a feature absent from the original Switch Pro Controller but present in competitors like the DualSense and Xbox Series controllers. If this filing indeed pertains to the Switch 2 Pro Controller, the addition of a headphone jack would represent a significant quality-of-life improvement for players.

Past Nintendo filings have occasionally provided early glimpses into the company's plans, lending some credibility to the speculation surrounding this controller. However, without official confirmation, we'll need to wait until the Switch 2 Direct for definitive answers.

The Nintendo Switch 2 Direct is scheduled to air tomorrow at 6am PT / 9am ET on Nintendo's channels. This event promises a "closer look" at the Switch 2 following its initial reveal earlier this year, potentially including details about its release date. Nintendo has confirmed that the Direct will last for an hour, and two additional Nintendo Treehouse: Live | Nintendo Switch 2 presentations featuring hands-on gameplay are set for April 3 and April 4, starting at 7am PT each day.

As we eagerly await tomorrow's announcements, the possibility of a new Pro Controller with enhanced features adds another layer of excitement to the upcoming reveal of the Nintendo Switch 2.
