At Pocket Gamer, we strive to bring you the latest on mobile gaming, but occasionally, a gem like Dynabytes' Fantasma slips through the cracks. I stumbled upon this intriguing title at Gamescom Latam last week, and it's definitely worth a closer look. Fantasma is an augmented reality multiplayer GPS adventure that challenges you to battle evil creatures in your real-world environment.
The game's presence at the event was timely, as it coincided with a significant update that introduced support for Japanese, Korean, Malay, and Portuguese languages—fitting, given the event's location in Brazil. Dynabytes is not stopping there; they plan to roll out Spanish, Italian, and German language support in the coming months, making Fantasma more accessible to a global audience.
So, what exactly is Fantasma about? In this game, you're on a mission to track down and combat the titular enemies, which are causing chaos in the world. To lure them in, you'll deploy portable electromagnetic fields as bait. Once these paranormal-like entities are enticed, you'll engage them in augmented reality battles. This means you'll be swinging your phone around your surroundings—be it your bedroom, a local park, or any other location—trying to keep the Fantasma in your sights while tapping the screen to shoot at them. After successfully reducing their health, you can capture them in specialized bottles.
The Fantasmas you encounter appear based on your real-world location, encouraging you to explore different areas to find more. To enhance your hunting capabilities, you can use sensors that expand your radar and attract these entities from a greater distance. Additionally, Fantasma offers a social aspect, allowing you to team up with other players for a more collaborative experience.
Fantasma is now available for free on the App Store and Google Play, with in-app purchases available. If you're intrigued, you can download it for your preferred platform using the links below.
