Dusk: A New Mobile Multiplayer App Aims to Disrupt the Market
Dusk, a newly funded mobile multiplayer app, is entering a crowded market with a unique approach. Developed by Bjarke Felbo and Sanjay Guruprasad, the app aims to be a social platform for quickly connecting with friends and playing custom-made multiplayer games. This isn't their first rodeo; their previous app, Rune (a companion app for PUBG and Call of Duty Mobile), achieved five million installs before its closure, demonstrating their experience in the mobile gaming space.
Dusk's core concept is a game creation platform. Users play games built specifically for the Dusk app, enjoying integrated chat and easy friend pairing. Think of it as a streamlined, mobile-centric version of Xbox Live or Steam, focusing on a curated selection of original games.
The Key Challenge: Game Selection
The primary hurdle Dusk faces is its reliance on its own, internally developed games. While titles like mini-golf and 3D racing show promise, they lack the established brand recognition of major gaming franchises.
However, Dusk boasts a significant advantage: cross-platform play across browsers, iOS, and Android. With other social platforms like Discord integrating gaming features, Dusk's simple, lightweight design offering seamless friend-based gameplay could prove appealing. Only time will tell if this strategy will succeed.
