The developers of Dune: Awakening have exciting news for fans eagerly awaiting the game's release: it will launch fully on May 20 without any early access phase or monthly subscription. This announcement marks a significant departure from typical MMO business models, such as those of Final Fantasy XIV, World of Warcraft, and EVE Online, which rely on subscriptions.
Funcom, the developer behind Dune: Awakening, detailed the game's launch strategy in a recent Steam blog post dated March 21. The post not only confirmed the full release date but also outlined the game's business model, system requirements, and plans for post-launch support.
Dune: Awakening, inspired by the iconic 1965 science fiction novel, will instead offer free updates to its players. These updates will include new content, features, and enhancements, ensuring a continuously evolving gameplay experience. Funcom emphasized their commitment to long-term support, drawing from their experience with other live service games like Anarchy Online, which will celebrate its 25th anniversary next year, and Conan Exiles, which continues to receive regular updates and expansions.

In addition to the business model details, Funcom announced the availability of pre-orders and revealed the different editions of Dune: Awakening. The announcement came via a post on their official website on March 24, following the initial Steam blog.
Players can choose from three editions: Standard, Deluxe, or Ultimate. Pre-ordering any edition grants access to two exclusive in-game items: the Terrarium of Muad'Dib, a detailed in-base decoration, and the Sunset Dye Global Swatch, a unique color pattern applicable to weapons, vehicles, and armor.

Those who opt for the Deluxe or Ultimate editions will enjoy a 5-day head start, with access to the game beginning on May 15. The Deluxe edition includes:
The Ultimate edition builds upon the Deluxe edition, adding:
