"Dune: Awakening Release Postponed by Three Weeks for Beta-Inspired Enhancements"

by Gabriel May 21,2025

The much-anticipated open-world survival MMO, *Dune: Awakening*, inspired by Frank Herbert's iconic sci-fi novels and Denis Villeneuve's films, has been pushed back to a new release date of June 10, 2025. Developer Funcom announced this delay, ensuring fans that those eager for a head start can dive into the game five days earlier on June 5 by purchasing either the Deluxe Edition or the Ultimate Edition.

Funcom cited feedback from their ongoing Persistent Closed Beta as the reason behind the delay. The additional time will allow the development team to "cook" the game further, incorporating requested changes and refining the experience. Moreover, this delay paves the way for a "large-scale beta weekend next month," offering more players a chance to experience *Dune: Awakening* and provide valuable feedback.

While the delay might be disappointing for some, Funcom is set to host a combat livestream today at 12pm ET/9am PT. This event will delve into the game's PvP and PvE mechanics, archetypes, and skills, offering fans a closer look at what to expect.

Here at IGN, our enthusiasm for *Dune: Awakening* remains high. As mentioned in our hands-on preview, "It's easy to be skeptical about an MMO survival game set in the Dune universe, but after a few bouts of dehydration and sunstroke, the day I spent in Arrakis convinced me that *Dune: Awakening* is one to watch."

For those seeking more information, you can explore details on the MMO's business model, post-launch plans, and watch the in-depth gameplay trailer that was unveiled at Gamescom ONL last year.
