Navigating the world of Dragon Quest 3 Remake to collect the six colored orbs can be a thrilling challenge, especially when it comes to securing the elusive Yellow Orb. While the process itself is straightforward, knowing where to start can be a bit of a puzzle. In the vast world of DQIII Remake, vital information often hinges on conversing with the right NPCs. This guide aims to streamline your quest for the Yellow Orb in Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake.
The Yellow Orb is hidden in a location referred to as Merchantburg, although it won't be named as such in the game. Instead, you'll see it marked as ??? on your map. This name derives from the merchant you recruit and leave behind to establish the village. For instance, if you name your merchant Christopher, the town becomes Christopherburg. Your mission involves helping this village flourish until you can finally claim the Yellow Orb.
After securing the Black Pepper for the King of Portoga and obtaining the Ship, you're ready to set sail towards Merchantburg. With quest markers enabled, you'll spot Merchantburg's marker in the northeast corner of the map. Sail west from the coast to reach the easternmost edge of the eastern continent, where Merchantburg awaits.
While the orbs can be collected in any order, prioritizing Merchantburg early on is advisable. The town requires significant time to develop before you can obtain the Yellow Orb. By establishing Merchantburg early, you can pursue other orbs while periodically checking on its progress.
### How to Establish Merchantburg in Dragon Quest 3 Remake:
Before heading to Merchantburg (???), visit PALS in Aliahan to hire a new Merchant. Aim to reach the town quickly, minimizing combat to keep your new party member safe.
Upon arriving at Merchantburg, enter the only building available. Inside, you'll meet an old man eager to start a new town but in need of a Merchant. Offer your new Merchant, who will then leave your party to establish the town, officially naming it.
After setting up Merchantburg, continue your journey to obtain the Purple Orb from Orochi's Lair and the Blue Orb from Gaia's Navel. You'll receive notifications to revisit Merchantburg as it grows through five stages. Each visit will show the town expanding, culminating in the construction of a large club.
On your fourth visit, be prepared to mention your Merchant's name to the security guard at the cabaret, who might try to overcharge you. At this point, you'll notice your Merchant's growing arrogance, signaling that the end of their reign—and your quest for the Yellow Orb—is nearing.
For your final visit, make sure it's nighttime. You'll find that the Merchant is no longer at home; the town has revolted, imprisoning them in a cell in a house just south of their residence.
Enter the jail and speak to the Merchant to learn about the Yellow Orb's location. After the conversation, return to the Merchant's home. A quest marker will appear behind the sofa; interact with the spot to uncover the Yellow Orb.
For most players, the Yellow Orb is typically the second-to-last orb obtained. You can then pursue the Red Orb at the Pirates' Den, the Green Orb in Theddon, and the Silver Orb in the Maw of the Necrogond/Necrogond Shrine.
