Nintendo has unveiled an exciting new addition to their gaming lineup with the announcement of Donkey Kong Bananza, a 3D platforming action game exclusive to the Nintendo Switch 2. Set to launch on July 17, 2025, this thrilling adventure will be available for $69.99. During the Nintendo Direct, fans were treated to a debut gameplay trailer that showcased the game's innovative mechanics.
According to the official description, Donkey Kong Bananza promises an action-packed experience where players can "crash, bash, and climb through nearly everything in DK’s path." The game introduces groundbreaking exploration features, allowing players to tear off chunks of terrain to swing around and throw. The more destruction caused by powerful punches, the more areas become available to explore. This adventure is set to be filled with mayhem, surprises, and, of course, plenty of bananas.
The Nintendo Switch 2, the platform for this new Donkey Kong game, is scheduled to hit the market on June 5, 2025, with a price tag of $449.99. The console package includes the following:
For those eager to dive into racing action, the Nintendo Switch 2 + Mario Kart World Bundle will be available for $499.99 on launch day. This bundle includes the system and a download code for Mario Kart World, which, when purchased separately, costs $79.99—a $10 increase over Nintendo's previously most expensive Switch game.
Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa expressed enthusiasm about the new console, stating, "Nintendo Switch 2 is the next step in at-home gaming that can be taken on the go based on eight years of play and discovery that began with Nintendo Switch. With its new features that expand the possibilities of gaming experiences, I truly believe that Nintendo Switch 2 is a leap forward in our journey of putting smiles on the faces of everyone that Nintendo touches."
The Nintendo Direct also highlighted other announcements for the Switch 2, showcasing the breadth of upcoming content and features.
