Bungie has just unveiled the exciting Year of Prophecy roadmap for Destiny 2, which promises to bring a galaxy of new content to the beloved free-to-play multiplayer shooter. The roadmap was revealed during the Destiny 2: The Edge of Fate livestream on May 7, setting the stage for an action-packed year ahead.
This year's roadmap marks a significant shift in Destiny 2's update structure. Bungie has announced that, starting with the Year of Prophecy, each year will now include four major content releases: two paid expansions and two major updates accessible to all players. These updates will introduce new events, Exotic Missions, gear, rewards, and more. Importantly, seasonal activities will not require paid access, ensuring that every player can enjoy the full scope of Destiny 2's major updates.
The Year of Prophecy kicks off with the first expansion, The Edge of Fate, launching on July 15. Players will venture to a new location, Kepler, and harness new abilities with the help of new allies. This expansion will also introduce the Portal, a new activity selection screen designed to help players quickly find activities that match their playstyle. Additionally, changes to the game’s armor and tiering systems, new set bonuses, and a rework of character stats are on the horizon. More details on these updates will be shared in the coming weeks, so stay tuned.
The second expansion of the year, Renegades, is slated for release on December 2. This expansion marks a unique collaboration with the iconic Star Wars franchise, blending Destiny's engaging storytelling and gameplay with Star Wars' beloved elements and themes. Renegades will be a pivotal part of the Fate Saga, introducing new characters and mechanics that will enrich the game's narrative and gameplay experience.
Alongside the roadmap, Bungie has opened pre-orders for various editions of Destiny 2 focused on the Year of Prophecy. The Edge of Fate pre-order includes:
