Michael Sarnoski, acclaimed director of A Quiet Place: Day One, is set to helm the live-action adaptation of Kojima Productions' Death Stranding. According to Deadline, Sarnoski will both write and direct the film, with A24 and Kojima Productions co-producing alongside Square Peg. Sarnoski's previous works include directing and writing for A Quiet Place: Day One and the 2021 film Pig, starring Nicolas Cage. He is also attached to another A24 project, The Death of Robin Hood.

While specific details about the Death Stranding adaptation remain under wraps, the original 2019 game set players on a mission to reconnect a fragmented America amidst an apocalyptic event, battling nightmarish creatures and eerie phenomena. The game's inherent cinematic qualities, combined with Hideo Kojima's flair for storytelling, make it a promising candidate for a film adaptation.

The game boasted a notable cast including Norman Reedus as the protagonist Sam Bridges, alongside Léa Seydoux, Mads Mikkelsen, Guillermo del Toro, and Margaret Qualley. It remains to be seen whether these actors will return for the live-action version.

In addition to the film, fans can look forward to Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, set to launch on June 26, 2025, for PlayStation 5. This sequel will feature new additions to the cast, including Luca Marinelli and Elle Fanning.

As excitement builds for this project, it's worth noting that another Kojima-related endeavor, the Metal Gear Solid movie, is also in development, though updates have been sparse. Given the star power and cinematic potential of Death Stranding, its transition to the big screen seems well-positioned for success.
