In an unexpected twist, Cristiano Ronaldo, often hailed as one of the greatest footballers alongside Lionel Messi, will step into the ring as a playable fighter in the upcoming game Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves. This marks one of the most unusual guest character appearances in recent fighting game history, blending the worlds of football and combat in an intriguing way.
Ronaldo will be part of the launch roster for Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves, developed and published by SNK Corporation. A recently released trailer showcases Ronaldo's integration into the game's distinctive comic-inspired art style. The legendary footballer is equipped with football-themed attacks, such as the "Headed Clearance" command move and a slide tackle, reflecting his real-life skills. Additionally, Ronaldo performs his iconic 'Siuuu' celebration, though the voice work for his character is provided by actor Juan Felipe Sierra, not Ronaldo himself.
According to the official character description:
One of the top football players in the world. He uses his time off to visit South Town to hone his new football skills. The various techniques he has developed playing football make him an unstoppable force, even to seasoned fighters.
At 40 years old, Ronaldo currently plays for Al Nassr FC, a professional football club in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, competing in the Saudi Pro League. Al Nassr FC is majority-owned by the Saudi Arabia Public Investment Fund (PIF), chaired by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. Interestingly, SNK Corporation is now almost entirely owned by the Saudi crown prince’s foundation, adding another layer of connection between Ronaldo's real-world affiliations and his presence in the game.
Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves is set to launch on April 24, 2025, promising a dynamic art style, a mix of new and returning fighters, and enhanced battle systems, making it a highly anticipated title in the fighting game community.
