Coyote vs. Acme Film May Hit Theaters Despite Cancellation

by Lucy Apr 17,2025

According to Deadline, the previously shelved Warner Bros. film Coyote vs. Acme may soon be revived, thanks to ongoing negotiations with Ketchup Entertainment, an independent film production and distribution company based in Los Angeles. The report indicates that while the deal is not yet finalized, a successful agreement could lead to a theatrical release of the film in 2026.

Coyote vs. Acme, announced in 2022, draws its inspiration from a 1990 New Yorker article by Ian Frazier. The film, co-written by James Gunn and featuring stars Will Forte and John Cena, was initially slated for a mid-2023 release on Max. However, despite having completed filming, it was unexpectedly shelved. Since then, a dedicated effort to save the movie has been in motion.

Ketchup Entertainment has a track record of rescuing films from similar predicaments. They recently saved Warner Bros.' The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie from cancellation, ensuring its theatrical debut in the US. This film marks the first fully animated Looney Tunes movie to hit theaters and has been praised by IGN as a "laugh-out-loud riot."

Ketchup Entertainment's portfolio also includes notable releases such as Hellboy: The Crooked Man and the Robert Rodriguez thriller Hypnotic, starring Ben Affleck. Additionally, the company co-produced the 2023 Ferrari biopic directed by Michael Mann.
