Call of Duty's shift to a live-service model has introduced various ways to unlock exclusive cosmetic rewards, catering to both free and paid players. The Battle Pass, a popular feature in free-to-play games, offers tiered rewards and is now complemented by the Event Pass in Black Ops 6 and Warzone. This new system provides an additional progression path for unique cosmetics tied to limited-time events. Let's explore the Event Pass in detail.
The Black Ops 6 and Warzone Event Pass is a progression system linked to specific in-game events. It features both free and premium tiers, each offering 10 rewards. The premium version costs 1,100 CoD Points (the same price as the standard Battle Pass) and unlocks additional rewards. These rewards always match the event's theme—for example, the Squid Game collaboration offered cosmetics inspired by the Netflix series.
The Event Pass functions similarly to other progression systems; players earn XP to unlock rewards. Completing all tiers grants a Mastery Reward, often a new weapon or Operator. Unlike previous systems relying on in-game challenges or community objectives, the Event Pass offers a streamlined reward unlocking process. It's particularly appealing for players fully immersing themselves in themed events and maximizing their collection.
To accelerate your progress, utilize Double XP Weekends or activate Double XP Tokens to double your XP per match. Playing fast-paced modes and smaller maps, which encourage higher kill counts, scorestreaks, and objective completions, will significantly boost your XP gain.
The Premium Event Pass is a worthwhile investment for players who consistently complete the Battle Pass and are comfortable spending on in-game content. While the free tier provides some rewards, completing it first helps determine if the 1,100 CoD Point upgrade is justified, especially if you've already purchased the Battle Pass or store bundles.
Remember, Event Pass rewards are purely cosmetic and non-essential to gameplay. The decision to purchase depends on your value of exclusive event content. Collectors or players aiming for complete event participation may find it worthwhile. However, if you rarely finish the Battle Pass or prefer using CoD Points on store bundles, saving your points might be a better strategy.
The Premium Event Pass's 1,100 CoD Point price tag, in addition to the Battle Pass and other premium content (store bundles costing 2,400 and 3,000 CoD Points), caused initial controversy. Furthermore, collaborations like the Squid Game event place the most appealing content behind paywalls. Operators inspired by series characters are exclusively available through premium bundles or the Premium Event Pass, limiting free-to-play players' access and full engagement.
Before purchasing the Premium Event Pass, carefully consider if a specific reward justifies the approximate cost of $10 / £8.39, or if allocating that budget to other Black Ops 6, Warzone, or even different game content is preferable.
