Capcom has subtly teased Resident Evil 9 amidst the celebration of hitting 10 million players for Resident Evil 4. In a video released on social media on April 25, 2025, the development team showcased a light-hearted scene featuring Ada Wong conversing with a notorious villain, followed by Leon surrounded by party-hat-wearing infected heading towards a church. The video takes an amusing turn with Dr. Salvador playing his chainsaw as a guitar, accompanied by a rock song, while Leon fist-pumps in front of a rustic "Thank you for playing" sign.
The video in its entirety can be viewed below:

However, eagle-eyed fans noticed something intriguing when the "Thank you for playing" sign is turned on its side. The boards form the Roman numeral "IX," which translates to the number 9. While this might seem like a coincidence, horror game leaker Dusk Golem points out that a lower plank on the sign, which would disrupt the "IX" formation, is absent in earlier parts of the video, suggesting this was an intentional addition.
One surprised viewer commented, "I know what you did here," accompanied by a wide-eyed emoji, hinting at the clever tease.
Capcom has confirmed that the next mainline entry in the Resident Evil series, speculated to be Resident Evil 9, will be directed by Resident Evil 7 director Koshi Nakanishi. Nakanishi stated, "It was really difficult to figure out what to do after [Resident Evil 7]. But I found it, and to be honest, it feels substantial. I can't share any details just yet, but I hope you're excited for the day I can." Rumors suggest, though not confirmed, that the game might be set on an island inspired by Singapore.
