Capcom Enhances iOS Versions of 'Resident Evil 4', 'Village', and '7' with Online DRM

Capcom's recent updates to *Resident Evil 7 biohazard* (Free), *Resident Evil 4* Remake (Free), and *Resident Evil Village* (Free) on iOS and iPadOS have introduced a new feature that many players might find frustrating. Just an hour ago, these premium-priced ports were updated to include an online DRM system. This system now requires an internet connection to check your purchase history every time you launch the games. If the check confirms your ownership, you'll proceed to the title screen. However, if you decline the check, the game will close immediately. This means that you can no longer play these games offline, which was possible with the previous versions.

Before the update, I personally tested all three games and confirmed they worked offline. Now, upon launching any of these games, you'll be greeted with a prompt similar to the one shown above. Clicking "No" results in the game shutting down. While this may not bother everyone, the addition of online DRM to games that were previously playable offline is a significant downgrade in user experience, especially for those who have already purchased these titles.

I hope Capcom considers alternative methods for verifying purchases, perhaps implementing checks less frequently rather than on every launch. Such changes can negatively impact the appeal of their premium-priced ports. If you haven't yet tried these games, you can still give them a go for free.
