Blade Trilogy Writer on MCU Reboot Delay: 'Why So Long?'

The writer of the Wesley Snipes Blade trilogy, David S. Goyer, has expressed his readiness to collaborate with Marvel chief Kevin Feige to help revive Mahershala Ali's stalled Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) reboot of Blade. Despite its announcement at San Diego Comic Con in 2019 and plans for a November release, the project has faced numerous delays and setbacks, cycling through directors like Yann Demange and Bassam Tariq without any progress.

Flying Lotus, who was set to compose the music for the film, recently revealed on X / Twitter that the project has been abandoned, expressing doubts about its revival. Costume designer Ruth E. Carter, who was to work on the film's 1920s setting, also confirmed the project's collapse during an appearance on The John Campea Show. Actor Delroy Lindo, who was cast alongside Ali, shared his disappointment with Entertainment Weekly, noting how the project initially promised inclusivity and excitement but ultimately fell apart.

Just seven months ago, Blade was removed from Marvel's release schedule, and despite Feige's assurance in an interview with Omelete that the studio remains committed to bringing Blade to the MCU, no new release date has been set.

Amidst the uncertainty surrounding Blade's reboot, the MCU film Deadpool & Wolverine, featuring a cameo by Wesley Snipes as Blade, was a massive success, grossing $1.3 billion globally. Ryan Reynolds, star of Deadpool, has advocated for a send-off film for Snipes' Blade, similar to Hugh Jackman's Logan, acknowledging the original Blade films' pivotal role in paving the way for the superhero genre and the MCU. Reynolds emphasized this on X/Twitter, calling Snipes "Marvel Daddy."

Additionally, Reynolds is reportedly in the early stages of developing a Deadpool and X-Men ensemble film, where Deadpool would not be the central character but share the spotlight with other X-Men characters, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
