Bethesda's Iconic Voice Actor Shares Recovery Message

by Lillian May 02,2025

Iconic Bethesda voice actor Wes Johnson, known for his roles in *The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim*, *Fallout 3*, *Starfield*, and many other titles, recently shared a heartfelt message amid his recovery. Johnson was found "barely alive" in his hotel room last week, and a video he recorded was uploaded to a GoFundMe page, which has raised over $174,653 to help cover his medical expenses and bills. In the video, Johnson revealed he had been in a coma.

"I found out there's a lot of love in this world that I didn't know was out there and I'm grateful to each and every one of you," Johnson expressed. The voice actor, who also serves as an announcer for the Washington Capitals, was in Atlanta to host a benefit event for the National Alzheimer’s Foundation. After checking into his hotel, he failed to appear at the event, prompting his wife, Kim Johnson, to call the hotel. Hotel security and emergency medical technicians eventually found him, struggling to detect a pulse.

"Rumors of my demise, well they weren't exaggerated. It was very close, very close. But I'm still here," Johnson shared. "I'm still here because my wife decided to call the hotel where I was staying, doing announcing for the Alzheimer's Association, and had my son call security, and find out I was nearly dead. They took me to the hospital, put me in a coma. I was in there for five days before I found out that my wonderful friends Bill Glasser and Shari Elliker and Kim had put together this GoFundMe, where I found out there's a lot of love in this world that I didn't know was out there and I'm grateful to each and every one of you."

Johnson extended his gratitude to the National Alzheimer's Association for flying his family to see him and providing them with accommodations, and to Ted Leonsis, chairman of the Washington Capitals' parent company, for donating $25,000. He also thanked Bill Glasser and Shari Elliker for their support.

Bethesda, where Johnson has lent his voice to numerous characters, showed their support via social media following news of his illness. "You say that I'm your friend. I am," Johnson said. "Always will be. Love you guys." He also thanked his fans, both those who donated and those who showed support in other ways. "I love you all. I'm not going anywhere," he affirmed.

"It's going to be a while as I work my way back but I'm coming back. I look forward to seeing and having you all hear me then. Cheers."

Johnson's career extends beyond video games, with roles in various films and television shows. However, his video game work is predominantly with Bethesda titles. His recent role was as Ron Hope in *Starfield*. He has also voiced characters such as the Prince of Madness Sheogorath and Lucien Lachance in *The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion*, three Daedric Princes (Boethiah, Malacath, and Molag Bal) in *The Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind*, Fawkes and Mister Burke in *Fallout 3*, Hermaeus Mora and Emperor Titus Mede II in *Skyrim*, and Moe Cronin in *Fallout 4*, among others.
