*Avowed* expands on the rich fantasy universe of Eora from the *Pillars of Eternity* series, bringing players into a world filled with diverse races known as Kith. Despite the variety within the game's lore, the character creation system offers a more limited selection of races for players to choose from. Here's a comprehensive guide to all the playable races in *Avowed*:
Humans, or Folk as they're called in *Avowed*, are the most common race you'll encounter in the game and within the character creator. As part of the broader Kith category, which includes various sentient and civilized species, humans are well-represented. The customization options for humans are extensive, designed to cater to a wide audience. Players can choose from numerous presets, dive into detailed character customization tools, and adjust a variety of facial features, skin tones, and hair textures. This ensures that most players can craft a character that closely resembles their vision.
Elves are another selectable race in *Avowed*. Visually, they closely resemble humans, with the main distinguishing features being their unique facial structures and, of course, their iconic long, pointed ears. This offers players a slightly different aesthetic to explore while maintaining a human-like appearance.
Godlikes represent a third playable race option in *Avowed*. Although all Envoys in the game's story are Godlike, players have the choice to display or conceal these unique features. Godlikes come with distinctive hair and facial features that range from subtle to surreal. At launch, *Avowed* offers 14 Godlike facial features and four Godlike hair options, available across all character races and body types.
In *Avowed*, the character creator provides four Body Types for selection: two masculine and two feminine, available for both Humans and Elves. Players can also choose from two feminine and two masculine voice options. Additionally, the game allows for the selection of character identifiers, determining the pronouns used for your character—options include he, she, and they.
While *Avowed* features a variety of Kith races among NPCs, such as Dwarves, the semiaquatic Aumaua, and the half-sized hairy Orlans, these are not available for player characters. These races can be seen throughout the Living Lands, adding depth to the game's world. However, they are not options in the character creator. There remains the potential for Obsidian Entertainment to expand race options in future updates or DLCs for *Avowed*.
This covers all the playable races in *Avowed*. For more on character creation, be sure to check out our guide to the various backgrounds you can select during your character's creation process.
