Another mobile game has unfortunately met its end. Atelier Resleriana: Forgotten Alchemy and the Polar Night Liberator, developed by Koei Tecmo and Akatsuki Games, has announced its End of Service (EOS) for the global version. This RPG, which had its global launch in January 2024, will be shutting down after barely over a year of operation, indicating it did not meet performance expectations. We will delve into the reasons behind this EOS later in the article.
However, it's important to note that the Japanese version of the game is still thriving and has no plans to shut down in the near future. Launched in September 2023, it is preparing to celebrate its 1.5th anniversary in March 2025, which presents a stark contrast to the global version's fate.
Ironically, the global version of Atelier Resleriana will cease operations in the same month the Japanese version is celebrating its 1.5th anniversary. The exact date for the EOS is set for March 28th, 2025. While Japanese players will be enjoying Chapter 22 (Part 2), global players will be concluding their journey with Chapter 21 (Part 1).
The in-game purchase system has already been disabled, but players can still use their Lodestar Gems until the game's final day. Koei Tecmo has also committed to providing new content and events leading up to the shutdown.
Adding another layer of irony, the global version had just celebrated its first anniversary on January 25th. So, to those players, it's a bittersweet "happy anniversary, now pack your bags."
The developers have released a notice stating that after evaluating their ability to maintain the game at a satisfactory level for players, they decided to shut down the global version. Indeed, the game struggled to make a significant impact on its player base.
Just a couple of months after its launch, players were vocal about their dissatisfaction with the game's gacha system. While the main characters received praise, the gameplay and monetization strategies, coupled with severe power creep, did not meet player expectations.
These factors ultimately led to the decision to end the service of Atelier Resleriana's global version. If you wish to bid farewell to the game, you can still find it on the Google Play Store.
