The Armadillo, a new addition to *Minecraft* with the 1.20.5 "Armored Paws" update, is a passive mob found across various warm biomes. This creature, adorned with hard "Scutes," plays a crucial role in crafting the innovative Wolf Armor, providing essential protection for your canine companions. Here’s a detailed guide on how to obtain Armadillo Scutes in *Minecraft*.
Armadillos are exclusive to warm biomes and often spawn in groups of two or three. Their natural defense mechanism is to roll into a protective ball when threatened, so players must approach them slowly and cautiously to prevent this reaction.
The biomes where Armadillos can be found include:
There are two primary methods to collect Armadillo Scutes:
Similar to how Chickens drop Eggs, Armadillos will naturally shed a Scute every 5-10 minutes. This passive method requires no tools or effort, making it an easy option. However, it can be time-consuming, especially if you need a large number of Scutes to craft multiple sets of Wolf Armor.
The more popular method involves using a Brush, a tool typically used for investigating suspicious sand or gravel. To obtain Scutes, gently brush the Armadillo, which will yield one Scute per brushing session.
In the Java Edition of *Minecraft*, an unenchanted Brush can be used on an Armadillo four times before breaking, while in Bedrock Edition, it can be used five times. Brushes can be repaired by combining two damaged ones, and if enchanted, two damaged Enchanted Brushes can be combined at an Anvil to retain both enchantments.
A Brush can be enchanted with Unbreaking, Mending, and Curse of Vanishing. To craft a Brush, you'll need a Feather, a Copper Ingot, and a Stick, arranged vertically in the center column of the Crafting Table.
To gather Scutes using the Brush, approach the Armadillos slowly to avoid triggering their defensive roll, then use the appropriate button to brush them. With enough Brushes, you can amass a significant number of Scutes for crafting Wolf Armor.
Once you've collected the required number of Scutes (six per set of Wolf Armor), head to a Crafting Table to create armor for your Wolves.
These are the current methods for obtaining and utilizing Armadillo Scutes in *Minecraft*. Whether you choose to wait patiently or actively brush, you'll be well on your way to protecting your furry friends.
