Anbernic Halts U.S. Shipments Due to Tariff Issues

by Hannah May 12,2025

Anbernic, a prominent manufacturer of retro handheld consoles, has announced the suspension of all U.S. orders due to recent changes in U.S. tariff policies. As reported by The Verge, the company has advised customers to opt for products shipped from their U.S. warehouse, which remain unaffected by the new import duties. This recommendation comes as a response to the halt in processing orders that require shipping directly from China.

Anbernic is widely recognized for its affordable Game Boy clones, typically shipped from China upon release, with additional stock stored in U.S. warehouses. Customers can choose their shipping origin on Anbernic's website, but with limited product availability from the U.S., certain models like the Anbernic RG CubeXX and RG 406H are no longer accessible to American buyers.

The recent tariff adjustments by the Trump administration have imposed rates as high as 145% on Chinese imports, with potential increases up to 245% on specific items such as electric vehicles when combined with existing tariffs. While some companies can absorb these costs, they are often passed on to consumers, leading to increased prices for tech and gaming products, including Nintendo Switch 2 accessories and gaming laptops.

Anbernic is actively seeking solutions to assist customers affected by custom fees during this period of transition. Meanwhile, Nintendo has officially unveiled the Switch 2 in a 60-minute Nintendo Direct earlier this month. Originally, pre-orders for the Switch 2 were scheduled to open in early April in the U.S., but due to tariff uncertainties in both the U.S. and Canada, the pre-order date has been delayed to April 24. Nintendo has maintained the $449.99 price for the Switch 2 console and its games, but has raised prices on most Switch 2 accessories.
