Ananta: Project Mugen

Remember Project Mugen, the highly anticipated urban open-world RPG developed by Naked Rain and published by NetEase? Well, the game has undergone a significant transformation and is now officially known as Ananta. Initially unveiled at Gamescom in August 2023, the project seemed to have gone quiet until recently, when a fresh trailer was released. More exciting details are set to be revealed on December 5th, but for now, dive into the official trailer of Project Mugen/Ananta.

Why the Name Change?

The developers have yet to provide a detailed explanation for the name change. Interestingly, the new name, Ananta, translates to "infinite" in Sanskrit, echoing the original name, Mugen, which also means "infinite." The Chinese name further reinforces this theme of infinity. The gaming community has mixed feelings about this shift, but there's a collective sigh of relief knowing that the project is still alive and kicking.

Comparisons are already being drawn between Ananta and another eagerly awaited RPG, Neverness to Everness by Hotta Studio. While Ananta's trailer is visually stunning, it doesn't showcase any gameplay, leaving many players favoring Neverness to Everness. Personally, I find Project Mugen/Ananta's visual style to be more captivating.

Here’s Where Things Get Weird, Though

In a surprising move, Team Project Mugen has deleted all their original social media accounts, including a YouTube channel with over 100k subscribers and videos that garnered millions of views. They retained their Discord server, simply renaming it, but started anew with everything else. This decision has left many gamers puzzled, as they could have easily renamed the existing accounts instead.

In Project Mugen or Ananta, you step into the shoes of an Infinite Trigger, a supernatural investigator tasked with navigating paranormal chaos. The game features a diverse cast of characters, including Taffy, Bansy, Alan, Mechanika, and Dila.
