Microsoft's recent Xbox showcases have notably included PlayStation 5 alongside Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Game Pass. This marks a significant shift in Microsoft's multiplatform strategy, a change not seen in previous showcases like the June 2024 event. Games like Ninja Gaiden 4, Doom: The Dark Ages, and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 showcased this new inclusivity. In contrast, the June 2024 showcase omitted PS5 logos for titles like Dragon Age: The Veilguard, Diablo 4: Vessel of Hatred, and Assassin's Creed Shadows, despite their eventual PS5 releases. This inconsistency highlights the evolving nature of Microsoft's marketing approach.

Conversely, Sony and Nintendo maintain a more console-centric approach. Recent showcases, like the State of Play, avoided mentioning Xbox, even for multiplatform titles such as Monster Hunter Wilds, Shinobi: Art of Vengeance, Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, and Onimusha: Way of the Sword. This underscores Sony's continued focus on its own ecosystem.

In an interview with XboxEra, Phil Spencer explained the shift, emphasizing transparency and honesty about game availability. He stated that the previous omission of PS5 logos in the June 2024 showcase was due to logistical challenges in acquiring all necessary assets. Spencer's vision prioritizes making games accessible across platforms, acknowledging differences between "open" and "closed" platforms but ultimately focusing on player reach.
This strategic change suggests that future Xbox showcases will likely feature PS5 and potentially Nintendo Switch 2 logos alongside Xbox. The upcoming June 2025 showcase may even include titles like Gears of War: E-Day, Fable, Perfect Dark, State of Decay 3, and the next Call of Duty with PS5 branding. However, it's unlikely that Sony and Nintendo will reciprocate this approach.
