Relic has unveiled Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War - Definitive Edition, a modern refresh of its classic 20-year-old real-time strategy game.

Coming to PC via Steam and GOG later this year, Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War - Definitive Edition faithfully recreates the original gameplay fans remember, while being fully optimized for today's hardware. Fans have eagerly awaited a revival of the Dawn of War series, and this first installment—widely regarded as one of the finest Warhammer 40,000 games ever—is the perfect starting point. Many hope Relic will use this release as a foundation for a brand-new sequel, potentially Dawn of War 4.

The Definitive Edition bundles all original Dawn of War content and its standalone expansions, featuring four classic campaigns, nine distinct armies, and over 200 maps in a single package. It supports 4K resolution, offers upscaled textures (four times the original resolution), and introduces image-based lighting for enhanced visual fidelity without compromising the classic feel. Improvements to world lighting, unit reflections, and shadows, along with new gloss and emissive lighting effects, bring the on-screen action to life.

Players can now zoom the camera out further for a broader view of the battlefield, and the HUD and screen layout have been optimized for widescreen displays. Upgraded to a 64-bit platform, the game supports the vibrant modding community and will be compatible with over two decades of player-created mods from day one.
