World of Warcraft Players are Torn on One Patch 11.1 Shaman Feature

Summary

  • WoW Patch 11.1 significantly updates the visuals of Shaman abilities like Lightning Bolt and Crash Lightning.
  • While Shamans receive extensive visual attention, the changes aren't universally praised by fans.
  • New skills debut in Patch 11.1, including Primordial Storm for Shamans and Symbiotic Relationship for Druids.

World of Warcraft Patch 11.1 brings a major visual refresh for Shamans, revamping the look of Lightning Bolt, Crash Lightning, and other abilities. Although many classes receive updated ability visuals, Shamans receive a more extensive overhaul. However, the updated particle effects aren't winning over all fans.

Currently available on the Public Test Realm (PTR), Undermined, World of Warcraft Patch 11.1 offers a sneak peek at upcoming changes. In addition to a new zone, instances, and other content, all classes receive balance adjustments, including a substantial Hunter class rework. Many classes also boast new visual effects for their abilities, with Shamans receiving the most significant updates. Lightning Bolt, Crash Lightning, and Fire Nova receive complete visual overhauls; Frost Shock gains new visual effects and sounds when used with Ice Strike. Ghost Wolf now scales with character models and is more transparent, and the Glyph of Spirit Raptors now functions with the Flowing Spirits talent. WoW content creator Doffen provides detailed side-by-side comparisons of these and other visual updates in helpful videos.

While most players appreciate the Crash Lightning, Fire Nova, and other ability updates, the Lightning Bolt animation is a point of contention. Many prefer the instantaneous bolt effect from Cataclysm over the projectile style reminiscent of World of Warcraft Classic.

Overall, however, the visual updates in Patch 11.1 are largely well-received. The hope is that Blizzard will eventually offer glyphs allowing players to choose between visual effects, similar to the Shaman Ascendance forms introduced in Patch 11.0.5.

Beyond ability makeovers, Patch 11.1 introduces new skills. These include Primordial Storm for Shamans, Symbiotic Relationship for Druids, and Slicing Winds for Windwalker Monks (the first Empowered spell outside Evokers, Earthen racial abilities, or Plunderstorm). Players can anticipate experimenting with these new skills and improved visuals in the next World of Warcraft update, anticipated around February 25th.
