Urban Legend Hunters 2: Double mixes live-action with virtual worlds, coming soon

by Matthew Jan 15,2025

  • Urban Legend Hunters 2: Double, is Playism's latest release, coming soon
  • It sees you take on the role of an outsider to a case of a missing person
  • Discover 3D environments using AR, and FMV actors superimposed over it

The world of FMV, or full-motion video, is something that's still quite rare in gaming. Having been all the rage back in the 90s it's now firmly on the hokier end of the scale. But will upcoming release Urban Legend Hunters 2: Double, be the one to pull it from the shadows? Eh, probably not, but that doesn't mean it won't be fun.

In Urban Legend Hunters 2: Double, you take on the role of an outsider to the whole ordeal faced by Chris, a missing Utuber [sic] who runs a channel about urban legends. You'll meet Rain, Shou and Tangtang, who claim to be members of Chris' channel, and discover the legend behind the double, or doppelganger, and how when two meet one will take the place of the other with no one the wiser.

Urban Legends 2 mixes in FMV video with AR investigation, as you use your phone's camera to navigate 3D environments and make your investigations. What's interesting is that said FMV is actually projected over the environment itself. Weird? Yes. Creative? Certainly.

yt Those wacky cryptids

So you can definitely give Urban Legends 2 one thing, it's got an interesting concept and execution. But at the same time, I think I would temper my expectations; I don't necessarily think that this is going to be some sort of nuanced psychological thriller.

At the same time, is that what you'd really want from something like this? I think part of the pleasure of FMV is the cheesiness, and that goes hand-in-hand with horror. So with that being said, although we don't know an exact release date yet (apart from a rather vague notion of this winter), I'd say this is one to watch.

In the meantime, while you may not think mobile is synonymous with horror, you'd be wrong. Don't believe us? Why not dig into our list of the top 25 best horror games for Android?
