Despite the cancellation of the planned live-action Driver TV series, Ubisoft confirms ongoing development of other Driver franchise projects. Read on for details on Ubisoft's announcement.
Ubisoft officially announced to Game File the cancellation of its live-action Driver series adaptation. Initially slated for exclusive streaming on Binge.com in 2021, the project was part of Ubisoft's broader initiative to expand its game franchises into new media. As stated by Ubisoft Film & Television head Danielle Kreinik, the goal was "to bring our games to life in new and exciting ways and create content set in the world, culture, and community of gaming."
However, the partnership ended due to the closure of Hotrod Tanner LLC, a movie production subsidiary (named after the Driver protagonist), in January. A Ubisoft spokesperson confirmed to Game File, "We are no longer moving forward with our partnership with Binge for a Driver series."
The good news for Driver fans is that Ubisoft assures continued work on "other exciting projects related to the franchise." While specifics remain undisclosed, Ubisoft promises future announcements. Stay tuned for further Driver news!
