Transformers: Canceled Game Details Emerge

Splash Damage scraps Transformers: Reactivate after a difficult development. The 1-4 player online game, unveiled at The Game Awards 2022, featured Autobots and Decepticons fighting a new alien threat. While leaks suggested a Generation 1 roster (Ironhide, Hot Rod, Starscream, Soundwave, Optimus Prime, Bumblebee) and potentially Beast Wars characters, the project has been canceled.

This decision, announced on Splash Damage's Twitter, may lead to staff layoffs. The studio expressed gratitude to its team and Hasbro for their contributions. Fan reactions are varied, with some expressing disappointment, while others anticipated the cancellation due to the lack of updates since the initial trailer.

Splash Damage is now focusing on "Project Astrid," a AAA open-world survival game built with Unreal Engine 5, a project announced in March 2023 in collaboration with streamers Shroud and Sacriel. The shift in resources to "Project Astrid" unfortunately necessitates job cuts within the studio. The cancellation leaves Transformers fans without a new AAA title featuring the iconic robots.

Summary

  • Cancellation: Transformers: Reactivate, a Splash Damage project, has been canceled.
  • Layoffs: Potential staff reductions at Splash Damage are expected due to the cancellation.
  • New Focus: The studio is concentrating on "Project Astrid," a AAA open-world survival game using Unreal Engine 5.
