Tencent Acquires Majority Share in Kuro Games' Wuthering Waves

Wuthering Waves’ Kuro Games Acquired by Tencent Tencent, a leading Chinese tech company, has significantly increased its investment in Kuro Games, the developer behind popular mobile games Wuthering Waves and Punishing: Gray Raven. This move gives Tencent majority control of Kuro Games.

Tencent Now Holds Majority Stake

Tencent's Increased Stake in Kuro GamesTencent's shareholding in Kuro Games has risen to approximately 51.4%, solidifying its position as the majority shareholder. This follows a previous investment in 2023 and the departure of other shareholders. Tencent is now the sole external investor in Kuro Games.

Maintaining Independence

Despite Tencent's majority ownership, Kuro Games assures continued operational independence. This mirrors Tencent's approach with other successful game studios like Riot Games (League of Legends, Valorant) and Supercell (Clash of Clans, Brawl Stars). Kuro Games states this acquisition will create a more stable environment, supporting its long-term independent growth strategy. Tencent has yet to release an official statement.

Kuro Games' Success

Kuro Games has achieved considerable success with its action RPG Punishing: Gray Raven and its recently released open-world RPG Wuthering Waves. Both titles have reportedly generated over $120 million USD in revenue each and continue to receive regular updates. Wuthering Waves has even earned a Players' Voice nomination at The Game Awards.
