Initially a PlayStation exclusive, the action-packed Stellar Blade is set to launch on PC in 2025! This article delves into the release date and potential implications of this PC port.
Following hints from SHIFT UP's CFO earlier this year, the developer has officially confirmed a 2025 PC release for Stellar Blade. The decision reflects the rising popularity of PC gaming and the success of similar titles. The developer cited the strong performance of games like Black Myth: Wukong as a key factor in their decision.
While a specific release date remains unannounced, SHIFT UP plans to maintain the game's popularity through various strategies. This includes the upcoming November 20th release of a collaboration DLC with NieR: Automata and the highly anticipated Photo Mode, along with continued marketing efforts.
Stellar Blade's PC release follows a trend of PlayStation exclusives making their way to PC. However, this trend has also introduced a potential issue: the requirement to link Steam accounts with PlayStation Network (PSN).
Published by Sony Interactive Entertainment, and with SHIFT UP operating as a Sony second-party developer, a PSN account linkage is highly probable. This would unfortunately exclude players in regions lacking PSN access from playing the PC version. Sony's justification centers on ensuring "safe" gameplay for their live-service titles, a rationale that has been questioned regarding single-player games.
The necessity of a PSN account for PC players remains unclear. Since SHIFT UP retains ownership of the IP, a PSN link might not be mandatory. However, such a requirement could significantly impact PC sales, potentially hindering SHIFT UP's goal of surpassing console sales.
