Sony Pictures and PlayStation Productions are teaming up to bring the acclaimed video game, Helldivers 2, to the big screen. The exciting announcement was made at CES 2025 by Asad Qizilbash, head of PlayStation Productions. While specifics remain under wraps, Qizilbash confirmed the project's commencement, promising fans a cinematic spectacle of epic space battles.
Helldivers 2, developed by Arrowhead Studios, is a critically-acclaimed shooter drawing inspiration from the classic Starship Troopers. Its phenomenal success is undeniable, achieving the remarkable feat of selling 12 million copies within its first 12 weeks, solidifying its place as PlayStation Studios' fastest-selling title. The recent Illuminate update, reintroducing enemies from the original Helldivers, further fueled its popularity.
Adding to PlayStation's cinematic expansion, a Horizon Zero Dawn film adaptation is also in the works, a joint venture between PlayStation Studios and Columbia Pictures – the studio behind the successful 2022 Uncharted movie. Qizilbash offered an initial glimpse into the Horizon Zero Dawn project, assuring audiences that the game's captivating world and characters will receive their first-ever cinematic treatment.
