Sega and Sonic Team are teaming up to deliver the ultimate kart racing experience in Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds, boasting the largest roster in series history! A PlayStation.blog post from February 12, 2025, by Sega of America Associate PR Manager Thalia Piedra, unveiled exciting new mechanics and features. While the trailer focuses primarily on Sonic characters, the game promises "iconic characters from the Sonic and Sega universes," with the official website stating 23 characters at launch, and more to come.

Confirmed characters from the trailer include Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Amy, the Sonic Riders (Jet, Wave, and Storm), the Deadly Six (Zavok and Zazz), Team Dark (Shadow, Rouge, and E-123 Omega), Dr. Eggman (alongside Egg Pawn and Metal Sonic), and the Chaotix (Vector, Charmy, and Espio). Rounding out the revealed roster are Blaze, Silver, Cream, and Big.

Prepare for a wild ride! Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds introduces revolutionary gameplay with "Travel Rings." These portals transport racers between vibrant worlds in real-time, transforming the race with dynamic environments called CrossWorlds. Piedra describes these as bringing "dramatic changes to races, transporting players from one world to a completely new location," offering a theme park-like experience filled with surprises, monsters, obstacles, and stunning scenery.

The dynamic tracks, inspired by Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed, change with each lap, demanding constant adaptation. Get ready to navigate 24 main tracks and 15 unique CrossWorlds!

Customization, Extreme Gear, and Gadgets – Oh My!

Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds delivers the most extensive vehicle customization yet. A February 17, 2025, tweet from the game's official account showcased deep customization options, including front and rear parts, wheels, body color, tire and cockpit customization, glow effects, and much more.

Players can also equip their characters with 23 different gadgets to optimize their racing style. And making a triumphant return from Sonic Riders are the Extreme Gear—flying hoverboards that add a boost-based racing dimension. Sonic Creative Officer Takashi Iizuka calls this "a great culmination of all the Sonic Racing series games to date."
