Longhi, a veteran character artist who previously worked on God of War (2018) and God of War Ragnarök, recently rejoined Santa Monica Studio. His LinkedIn profile explicitly states that he's overseeing character development for an "unannounced project," further fueling speculation about a new game. He notes his role includes "Supervising/Directing Character development…and also helping the studio to continually push and raise the bar on Character Development for videogames."

Expanding Team, Sci-Fi Speculation

God of War Devs' New Sci-Fi IP Rumors Swell

Adding to the intrigue, Santa Monica Studio's creative director, Cory Barlog, has previously mentioned the studio's involvement in multiple projects. This, coupled with recent job postings for a character artist and tools programmer, suggests significant expansion within the studio. Industry rumors point towards a new sci-fi IP, potentially under the direction of Stig Asmussen (God of War 3's creative director). While Sony's trademark of "Intergalactic The Heretic Prophet" earlier this year adds fuel to the fire, no official confirmation exists. Previous rumors of a cancelled PS4 sci-fi project from the studio also linger in the background. The mystery remains, but the evidence strongly suggests a significant new project is underway.
