Pokémon GO is about to get a whole lot bigger (and hungrier)! Developer Niantic has dropped hints suggesting the arrival of Dynamax and Gigantamax mechanics, first seen in Pokémon Sword and Shield.
Niantic confirmed the addition of Morpeko, the form-changing Pokémon, to Pokémon GO. This announcement has sparked intense speculation among fans, with many believing it foreshadows the introduction of Dynamax and Gigantamax. These size-altering mechanics, unique to the Galar region in the main series games, would dramatically change battles.
"Coming soon: Morpeko will charge into Pokémon GO, changing the way you battle! Certain Pokémon—like Morpeko—will be able to change form in battle by using a Charged Attack, unleashing new possibilities for you and your battle team," Niantic revealed. They further teased the upcoming season with the promise of "big changes, big battles, and…big Pokémon."
While details remain scarce, these "big" changes are expected to arrive in September's new season. The addition of Morpeko fuels speculation about other Galar Pokémon like Mimikyu and Aegislash potentially joining the roster. The implementation of Dynamax and Gigantamax remains unclear; whether a system similar to the Power Spots from *Sword and Shield* will be used in Pokémon GO is yet to be seen. The current Shared Skies season ends September 3rd, and the next season's focus on Galar Pokémon further strengthens this theory. However, these are still just exciting possibilities; official confirmation is awaited.
Trainers still have a chance to catch the special Snorkeling Pikachu until August 20th at 8 pm local time. This event Pikachu can be found in one-star raids and through field research, and a shiny variant awaits lucky players.
The Welcome Party Special Research tasks also continue, offering new trainers a rewarding experience through teamwork. However, this feature is locked for trainers below level 15. Level up and join the party!
