Even before its official announcement, many observers criticized Game of Thrones: Kingsroad's visuals, likening them to a PlayStation 3-era licensed title or a typical mobile game. However, some remained optimistic, citing the lack of compelling Game of Thrones games as a potential catalyst for success.
Now, thanks to the Steam Next Fest demo, the debate is settled: Game of Thrones: Kingsroad is underwhelming.
Players have largely panned the game across the board, criticizing its outdated combat mechanics, graphics, and numerous design choices that strongly suggest a mobile game origin. Many call it a simple port, but even if not, the game's visual style feels firmly rooted in 2010.
While some positive reviews exist on the Steam page, many share a remarkably similar, almost suspiciously optimistic tone: "I really enjoyed the demo, looking forward to the full release." Whether these are automated reviews or simply the persistent optimism of the game's early supporters remains unclear.
Game of Thrones: Kingsroad is slated for release on PC (Steam) and mobile devices, though a concrete release date is yet to be announced.
