Capcom Unveils Onimusha: Way of the Sword Gameplay Featuring Miyamoto Musashi
Capcom recently showcased fresh gameplay footage for its upcoming action title, Onimusha: Way of the Sword, slated for release in 2026. The reveal, part of the PlayStation State of Play event, finally confirmed the game's protagonist: the legendary swordsman Miyamoto Musashi.
The trailer offered a compelling look at the game's sword-focused combat and impressive boss encounters. While still over two years away, the game's visuals and action sequences are already generating significant buzz.
The game will feature Musashi's renowned swordsmanship, but also highlight a more playful and comedic side to his personality.
According to Capcom's press release, Onimusha: Way of the Sword is a dark fantasy action game centered around this iconic Japanese historical figure. Musashi's in-game likeness is reportedly based on Toshiro Mifune, the celebrated Japanese actor known for his portrayal of Musashi in various samurai films.
The game's setting is a demon-infested Kyoto, overrun by the malevolent force known as Malic, which is summoning hellish creatures into Japan. This marks the first new entry in the Onimusha franchise in two decades. To build anticipation, Capcom also announced a remaster of Onimusha 2: Samurai's Destiny, launching May 23, 2025.
