Nvidia GeForce RTX 5090: 32GB GDDR7 Memory and 575W Power Draw
Leaked specifications point to Nvidia's upcoming RTX 5090 boasting a significant upgrade in video memory and power consumption. The card is expected to feature a massive 32GB of GDDR7 memory—double that of the anticipated RTX 5080 and 5070 Ti. This performance boost, however, comes at a cost: a substantial 575W power draw.
The RTX 5090, along with the rest of the RTX 50 series (codenamed Blackwell), will be officially unveiled at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2025 on January 6th. This next-generation lineup arrives over two years after the RTX 40 series launch and will incorporate key features such as Nvidia's DLSS upscaling technology, ray tracing capabilities, and PCIe 5.0 support for compatible motherboards. The RTX 50 series will replace the RTX 40 series (some models of which, like the RTX 4090D and 4070, have already been discontinued) and will compete directly against AMD's Radeon RX 9000 series and Intel's Battlemage GPUs.
Ahead of the official announcement, details about the RTX 5090 emerged from Inno3D, one of Nvidia's AIB partners. Images of the Inno3D iChill X3 RTX 5090, a triple-fan card occupying over three expansion slots, confirmed the 32GB GDDR7 memory and the 575W power requirement. This represents a considerable jump from the RTX 4090's 450W TDP.
Key features of the RTX 5090, as revealed by Inno3D, include:
Nvidia's official reveal at CES will also include the RTX 5080 and 5070 Ti. The RTX 50 series will utilize a 16-pin power connector, though adapters will be provided. While performance is expected to be impressive, the RTX 5090 is likely to command a premium price, potentially starting at $1999 or higher.
