Super Smash Bros. creator Masahiro Sakurai has reignited fan speculation by reposting Nintendo's Switch 2 Direct announcement with an excited exclamation. The gaming community is interpreting this as a potential hint towards a new installment in the beloved fighting franchise.

As reported by Automaton, Sakurai shared Nintendo's Japanese announcement revealing the full Switch 2 presentation scheduled for April 2. His simple response - "Ooh!" - has sent fans into frenzied speculation about a potential new Super Smash Bros. title.

While Sakurai's reaction could simply reflect personal excitement, multiple clues suggest he might be hinting at upcoming developments. The renowned developer launched a YouTube channel in 2022 but scaled it back after confirming he wasn't finished creating games. His final video teased an upcoming project that would be revealed "sooner or later."

Despite the speculation, Nintendo hasn't officially announced any new Super Smash Bros. titles. Sakurai previously expressed uncertainty about surpassing Ultimate's massive scope, which included cross-over characters like Final Fantasy 7's Sephiroth, Kingdom Hearts' Sora, and Minecraft's Steve.

However, Nintendo's consistent track record - releasing a Smash Bros. game for every console since the original 1999 N64 title - combined with Ultimate's phenomenal sales (35.88 million copies sold) makes a Switch 2 installment highly probable.
