Weapon damage in NieR: Automata varies with each swing. Upgrading reduces this variance and boosts potential damage.
The Iron Pipe boasts the game's widest damage range but also possesses exceptionally high potential damage. Its effectiveness is unpredictable, but its acquisition and use are worthwhile. Here's how to get it:
The Iron Pipe is a rare fishing reward found in sewers. Both sewer locations offer equal drop rates; the one near Resistance Camp is more accessible.
Fast travel to Resistance Camp and head right towards the Amusement Park. After crossing a small gap, you'll find an open manhole beneath a highway.
Once inside, fish in the sewer water. Other junk items, sellable for credits, may also be caught. There's no guaranteed method to increase the drop rate; obtaining the Iron Pipe may take several attempts. Use your Pod's light to improve visibility underwater.
Another sewer is located en route to the Flooded City.
The Iron Pipe maintains a significant damage range regardless of upgrade level. However, successful hits can yield some of the game's highest damage outputs, making it a valuable early-game acquisition. Upgrade requirements and resulting stats are:
