Lionsgate's Monopoly Movie to Get Screenplay From Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves Writers

The upcoming Monopoly movie from Lionsgate has tapped John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein as its writers. These talented duo, known for their work on Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, are set to bring the iconic Hasbro board game to life on the big screen. The film will be produced by Margot Robbie through her production company, LuckyChap.

Daley and Goldstein have an impressive track record, having recently written and directed their original film, Mayday. They also contributed their writing skills to blockbuster hits like The Flash and Spider-Man: Homecoming.

The journey to a Monopoly movie has been long and winding. Discussions about adapting the game into a film date back to 2007 when Ridley Scott showed interest in directing it. In 2011, Scott enlisted Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski to pen the script, but the project didn't materialize. Another attempt in 2015 saw Lionsgate and Hasbro teaming up with Andrew Niccol as the writer, followed by reports in 2019 that Kevin Hart and Tim Story would be involved. However, none of these plans came to fruition.

The current effort was reignited by Lionsgate's acquisition of eOne from Hasbro, setting the stage for a fresh start. With Daley and Goldstein at the helm of the screenplay, fans are hopeful that this version of the Monopoly film will finally pass Go and deliver an entertaining cinematic experience.
