The King of Fighters ALLSTAR is officially ending service

by Chloe Mar 21,2025

The popular beat 'em up ARPG, King of Fighters ALLSTAR, will be ending service on October 30th, 2024. This announcement, made via the official Netmarble forums, confirms the cessation of in-game purchases, which have already been closed.

This news comes as a surprise, considering the game's strong six-year run and numerous high-profile collaborations with other fighting game franchises. The game, based on SNK's King of Fighters franchise, has enjoyed significant success. However, according to a more detailed developer announcement, the closure is partly attributed to a depletion of characters from the source material to adapt into the game, even with the extensive roster of the King of Fighters series. While this is likely not the sole reason, it offers some insight into the decision.

The closure of King of Fighters ALLSTAR sadly continues a trend of long-running mobile live-service games shutting down in 2024. This highlights both the challenges of maintaining these games and the surprising difficulties some mobile game developers face in sustaining profitability, despite the platform's popularity.
